60 Over 60: Dave Clark

Dave Clark Long Beach, CA Age 68

What keeps you excited in the studio? Making my art.

Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed? It is evolved into a series of series reflecting my outlook on the world as it exists today and someday in the future. My work has become far more subjective while being either simplistic or complex through the use of materials.

What role do you think the artist has in today’s society? To generate conversations. To entertain. To create movement in people.

What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist? To do what you do with the understanding that money or fame is not the goal.

Does age matter in art? Why or why not? Only in terms of experience with what one does.

What can we look forward to from you next? More of the same though perhaps not.

Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life? Time becomes way more fleeting. The end is drawing closer and closer. Regardless, just keep moving.
