Diane Pond Los Angeles CA Age 72
What keeps you excited in the studio? My inner journey on Earth.
Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed? Moving 4 years ago, into a basement apartment my work has definitely gotten smaller. Other than that I did start in soft & oil pastels and have moved to acrylics and some other mediums. My training was in expressive arts, dreams, inner visions, 5 universal symbols and these are still the source of my inspiration.
What role do you think the artist has in today’s society? Listen, trust and learn from their inner vision deeply enough to follow.
What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist? Be open. Lots of influence going on. And ask the question of self, your art, community; how can my art serve the highest good and how can I be in integrity to produce art that expresses these things.
Does age matter in art? Why or why not? Age matters; like geographics, spiritual awakening, like resources, inspiration or physical capabilities which all change.
What can we look forward to from you next? I’ve a Dakini compilation I am jumping back into, I am using expressive arts as therapy after a divorce, and I want to track my vision and dreams for new pieces.
Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life? I am aware of my accumulation of art work, my financial situation, which affects getting my art out for sale and these facts prompt ways of letting go of the art work to have less when I die.
