60 Over 60: Michael Acker

Updated: Dec 3, 2024

Michael Acker Boyes Hot Springs, CA Age 75

What keeps you excited in the studio? Seeing what happens next.

Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed? Unexpectedly.

What role do you think the artist has in today’s society? Many: to inspire action and thought, to create joy.

What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist? Connect with many people and lots of art. Forget about all that in the studio.

Does age matter in art? Why or why not? To whom? People will judge you, don’t judge yourself.

What can we look forward to from you next? I hope I can continue to surprise myself, therefore you.

Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life? I’m hoping to use the imminence of death to free me of my limits.
