60 Over 60: Nina Camplin

Nina Camplin Neath Port Talbot UK Age 60

What keeps you excited in the studio? Experimenting, trying new ideas.

Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed? I am constantly learning, taking inspiration from my surroundings and the people I meet.

What role do you think the artist has in today’s society? It calms the mind in a world where everything else seems to produce stress and anxiety.

What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist? Break the rules, and never give up on yourself!

Does age matter in art? Why or why not? Age has no relevance in art, the older I get, the more I learn, but I am also aware that there’s always more to learn. Whatever age you are, you should never stop evolving as an artist.

What can we look forward to from you next? Who knows, I can’t predict where my inspiration will come from in the future!

Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life? I have learnt that my best work comes from whatever I am passionate about at that time, and this is constantly changing. I may make a piece of work that I feel is my best ever, then later on in time, I may hate it. I am not afraid to destroy work that no longer holds meaning to me.
