60 Over 60: Todd Williamson

Updated: Nov 23, 2024

Todd Williamson West Hollywood, CA Age 60

What keeps you excited in the studio? New exhibitions.

Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed? Methodically.

What role do you think the artist has in today’s society? Making people money seems to be the role that has come to play. Not the role it should be playing, but that is what it’s doing.

What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist? Know that you are running a business and that you have to know how to run a business.

Does age matter in art? Why or why not? Yes, of course. The Art worlds Main differences now are the changes due to technology and social media. If you don’t understand, you’ll have to keep up with the times you will be left behind.

What can we look forward to from you next? I have two projects coming up. One in Germany with two older dead, German abstract artist and a project with the Italian government dealing with the healing effects of color and sound. This video project is very close to my heart. I produced a short documentary film called swords in the sand that is doing very well on the international film circuit. It has been official selection at five already and won best documentary at the NXT up festival.

Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life? I think it is more stressful as I get older and I expected it to get less stressful. I expect my galleries to be more upfront with me and deal more honestly with me and I am not finding that the case.
