60 Over 60: Wendy Walters (nee Smith)

Updated: Nov 23, 2024

Wendy Walters (nee Smith) La Verne CA Age 67

What keeps you excited in the studio? The work.

Looking back at your trajectory as an artist, how would you say your work has developed? Well I think my work has always been an exploration of my spiritual and human journey.

What role do you think the artist has in today’s society? The role of creating beauty in a sometimes difficult world.

What’s the most important advice you could give to an aspiring artist? Keep at it.

Does age matter in art? Why or why not? No, however, I think there is a huge boon that comes from a lifetime of pursuing a visual medium– lot of tools in the tool box.

What can we look forward to from you next? I am currently working on a series of body pieces exploring the organs and structures of the body.

Is there anything else you would like to share about being an artist later in life? Its hard and lonely to be an artist — its really a solitary endeavor.
