Prominent Los Angeles artists have volunteered their time and talents to produce works of art inspired by the Anti-Defamation League’s mission. The powerful art will be exhibited and auctioned off at ArtWorks ADL: Justice, Advocacy & Art™ on October 22, 6:30 p.m. This reception and auction will bring together Los Angeles artists and those dedicated to ADL’s fight against anti-Semitism and bigotry of all kinds. ArtWorks will be held at the Beverly Hills home of major art collectors and philanthropists, Jeanne and Tony Pritzker. Attendees will include art collectors, philanthropists, the greater Los Angeles business community and loyal ADL supporters.
Using their creative visions in diverse mediums, over 40 prominent, LA-based artists are contributing pieces. The fundraiser event will begin with a silent auction at 6:30 p.m., followed by a live auction conducted by Mellisa Nielsen, President and Founder of The Charity Angels.
ArtWorks festivities will include live music, gourmet food, wine and champagne. Wireless, electronic bidding will be used. All artists are invited to attend the event and share the inspiration behind their pieces.
ArtWorks will showcase unique works from leading Los Angeles-based artists, including paintings by Andrew Hem, Aaron Morse and Aaron Smith; mixed media pieces by Craig “Skibs” Barker, Seonna Hong, and Ruth Weisberg; sculptures by Brad Howe, Laddie John Dill and Eric Johnson; photography by George Legrady and Julius Shulman; and drawings by Kenturah Davis and Raffi Kalenderian. Contributing artists are ethnically diverse, representing the Jewish, Asian, Latino, African American, as well as LGBT communities. All are invited to attend the event as guests of ADL.
“This event combines two of our passions – art and social justice,” said Honorary Chairs Rosanna Arquette and Todd Morgan, who are ardent devotees of the local arts scene. “We appreciate the mix of established and emerging artists and like the idea of giving exposure to LA-area artists while supporting a good cause.”
Los Angeles art critic Edward Goldman, host of “Art Talk” on KCRW 89.9 FM, identified eight artists whose work particularly caught his eye from among those who submitted pieces for ArtWorks. These include Jason Shawn Alexander,Kenturah Davis, Damien Hirst, Eric Johnson, George Legrady, Dan McClearyand Mike Saijo. Of Mike Saijo’s submission, Oak Tree (Hebrew), Goldman said: “In his striking juxtaposition of photographic images with pages of books – with the text printed in different languages – Mike Saijo captures the ethnic diversity of Los Angeles, with its mixture of Jewish, Japanese and Mexican communities, among many others.”
“We are so proud to present this inspirational event, representing the great diversity of Los Angeles,” said Amanda Susskind, Los Angeles ADL Regional Director. “Art provides a unique medium for our message and is able to bridge barriers and build understanding in a way that words often cannot.”
100 percent of art sale proceeds will go to support ADL programs to combat anti-Semitism and bigotry of all kinds. Complimentary local delivery will be available for all purchased art by Box Brothers.
