Lindsey Price, multimedia artist extraordinaire

In Lindsey’s words

My eyes are on constant alert of my surroundings, exploring my environment for puzzle pieces to my art. I create digital photo montages – meaning I hand-pick photos and carefully craft them into a single image. My work is time consuming. It consists of many layers. It is not quickly completed. It is images upon images – cut up and rearranged.

While many images and pieces of our current universe are visible, they are fluidly combined so it is not always clear where one image starts and another begins. My art is a surreal, dream-like dimension of our universe that pushes the boundaries of what is possible. It is a distortion of our reality, including elements which could not possibly exist or be identified in mankind as it is. It is an escape. Bright and vintage looking images are used . Much of my work features landscapes and a woman – whom I identify as myself.

The most moving part of the process for me is this image selection because I never know where I will find an image that excites me. I frequently travel through the interweb, scan through magazines, books, blogs – and often times incorporate my own photography. The composition piece of my work is like a game of tetris, where I must experiment with what fits and balances together. Safe in my studio – surrounded by items that are home to me – my guitar, books, records – that is where I find my creative energy is peaked. It’s a lot of trial and error. But it’s all about creating a well-balanced composition. Occasionally I also like to work outside where I can feel the weather and figuratively place myself inside the landscapes I create.

Much of my ongoing inspiration comes from the surrealist art movement and several of the original collage artists. I recall the first time I was captivated by the beauty in the idea that existing images can be combined to form art itself. I continue to be amazed by this concept. Each piece I create is a representation of my innermost desires, fantasies and dreams. It is an unleashed visual expression of my cravings in the world – allowing me the freedom to let go of myself and escape reality, if only temporarily. It is an opportunity for me to contribute to an up-and-coming digital art world, that is all too often misunderstood. I create my art with the hope that others will travel through the images I have put together and be awakened to their own desire to express themselves – in whatever form this might take.
