Come to Redondo Beach for the Opening Day of CA 101 2015, July 31st, which will take place at the historic AES Power Plant located at 1100 N. Harbor Drive in Redondo Beach. This unique Industrial Cathedral is serving as an art gallery for the CA 101 art exhibition. Experience artworks in every media which will enhance your understanding and appreciation of works by California artists. Amongst works in oil, watercolor, mixed media and photography, CA 101 is proud to feature major installations throughout the galleries. Special awards will be presented to artists for First Place, $750; Second Place, $500, Public Favorite, $100; Best Emerging Artist, $100; Public Arts Commission Choice: $100.
CA 101 2015 is produced by the Friends of Redondo Beach Arts (FRBA), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the arts in Redondo Beach. Today, thanks to the efforts of many volunteers, city officials and the community at large, Redondo Beach has become the center for the arts in the South Bay. CA 101 2015 will be held for two consecutive weekends, July 31-August 2 and August 7-9. Opening night will be held Friday July 31 from 7-10pm. This is the fourth year for the CA101 art exhibition with Nina Zak Laddon serving as Juror/Curator and Sandra Liljenwall as Exhibition Director for the show.
California artists from the Oregon border to San Diego have been invited to share and exchange their creative impressions of life in California. During CA101, interaction between artists produces a vibrant, contemporary and creative atmosphere as it continues to promote Redondo Beach as a center of arts and culture in southern California. The CA 101 2015 event is an unparalleled venue for artists to exhibit their work. The AES dormant steam station has a soaring ceiling, large expanse of windows facing the Pacific Ocean, open space and unique backdrop of the original machinery. It is the size of a football field with brick red floors and mint green turbines. For two consecutive weekends, CA 101 2015 will transform the AES Power Plant into a museum bringing together diverse works of art from traditional and contemporary artists living and working in California. We are thankful to our sponsors and volunteers for giving us the opportunity to gather such an eclectic group of works in such an inspiring space. Last year, the CA 101 2014 was pleased to have over 125 artists exhibiting, representing 40 cities throughout California and approximately 5000 visitors.
