Los Angeles May 2015- The San Fernando Valley Arts & Cultural Center is pleased to present a group exhibition of work by members of the Collage Artists of America. “Artists Choice!” will run from May 27th to June 14th 2015 with an opening reception Saturday May 30th from 5-7pm.
From Picasso to Hannah Hoch, Pop Art to Photoshop, we are living in the age of collage. In all walks of life, collage is used for communication, entertainment, education and more. The Collage Artists of America create a community of artists who follow this long history of creativity using any and every material available.
Established in 1988, the Collage Artists of America was founded by nine Los Angeles-area women proficient in a variety of media who sought to expand their creativity to encompass collage and assemblage. Two years later the current name of the organization was adopted and membership has grown across the United States. Many members are or have been instructors at all levels of education and exhibit widely both nationally and internationally.
Juror Kristine Schomaker is a new media and performance artist, painter and art historian living and working at the Brewery artist complex in Los Angeles California. She received her BA in Art History and her MA in Studio Art from California State University at Northridge. Kristine works with various interdisciplinary art forms including online virtual worlds to explore notions of online identity and the hybridization of digital media with the physical world. Kristine has an active life in the arts, previously teaching art history at Antelope Valley College and Pasadena City College, forming an artist collective in Los Angeles and organizing and curating numerous art exhibitions. Kristine believes in supporting artists by building a community of like-minded people who have a plan, can share resources and bring an idea to fruition. She is currently the President of the Brewery Artwalk Association and is the social media coordinator for the Los Angeles Art Association.
