Hollywood (February 24th): In honor or Women’s History Month, we are pleased to announce We Choose Art| A Feminist Perspective opening  March 13th from 7-11pm at The Montalban in Hollywood California. Following We Choose Art’s philosophy of creating a collaborative community of artistic expression, this unique exhibition continues to document the vibrant, creative culture of feminist artists working today.

Curators Baha Danesh and Kristine Schomaker created this 3 week pop-up exhibition to expand on the wonderful work by other feminist. They chose both male and female artists whose work continues the feminist dialogue of equality for all. The work presented spans over 40 years with a diversity of artists working in the Los Angeles area. The featured artists are showing works that deal with concepts of race, class, culture, politics, social commentary and representation of women.

Participating artists include: Anna Stump, Antoinette Adams, April Bey, Baha Danesh, Dani Dodge, David Estrada, Hilda Rios, Isabella Kelly-Ramirez, J Michael Walker, Jane Szabo, Katherine Rohrbacher, Kathi Flood, Kristine Schomaker, Nancy Worthington, Rachel Kaster, Rikki Niehaus, Snezana Saraswati Petrovic  and Wyatt Mills.

The Montalban Theatre, built in 1926, provides a special window into the entire entertainment business and the performing arts in Los Angeles. They provide young people with a place to learn and practice the skills necessary for a successful career in the performing arts.

Baha Danesh is a curator, artist and Iranian feminist advocate living and working in Los Angeles. She is the founder of the art collective “L’art Pour L’art,” owner of the contemporary art website WeChooseArt.com and gallery director of the I-5 Gallery located within the Brewery Art Complex.

Kristine Schomaker is a publicist, curator, art historian and artist living and working at the Brewery Artist Community in Los Angeles. She received a BA in Art History and Masters in Studio Art from CSU Northridge. Currently she is president and social media/marketing coordinator of the Brewery Artwalk Association and Director of Shoebox PR.
