“Plato’s famous philosophical Allegory of the Cave from his book The Republic is the study of how we really come to know things. If one exists seeing only shadows how can one truly understand anything seen in the full spectrum of daylight? What constitutes reality, truth or beauty? What happens when a painting captures something new or different? Are we willing to allow the painting to change our views and experience the reality of the artist? What if we are the ones in the shadows and don’t know it?”
